2 Movies in a row...with a few days of difference in their release dates....Both based on Evil. Bad circumstances, the turn it takes in their normal lives...Raavan and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai...
Commonness between the two...2 characters- One who turned a bad guy but with a good heart and another guy who would go to any extent to achieve his goals. To be successful in his mission.
Both the movies had a different look...beautifully taken... Awesome star cast...And proven directors. Yet one went to win the hearts of the masses and the other did not wow the Audience as expected.
In fact, Raavan was a very much awaited movie but met only disappointments and did not hit the box office... Thought the music hit the charts, the movie as such did not make it as expected... I had a chance to watch it when it was screened on television. In spite of its negative reviews; I wanted to see what was so wrong with it. But, to my amazement, I found the movie to be a good piece of work.
The Director (As Expected-Mr. Mani Ratnam) did a great job. The location, the costume, and the unsaid expressions that the characters played...were worth appreciating. What went wrong? There could be more than one reason, maybe it didn’t have anything different to offer. It reminded me of Bandit Queen-She fought a battle in her own way against the injustice done to her and here Veera fought in his own way against the injustice done to his sister, which in turned him to be what he was.
A wanted criminal for the police and at the same time a messiah for the poor...A God in himself...The only twist was the police inspector turning into Raavan to achieve his goals and used his wife(the Modern Sita). Abhishek has a different look and has done a good job. Has proved his acting skills. It could be that the public couldn’t relate to that kind of atmosphere. Or they found both the male leading characters equally ferocious...It could also be that most of them went with a perception that the story baseline is from our Epic Ramayan...

Bottom line story—In Every Evil there is goodness within and in every good person there is a dreadful person...
Once upon a time in Mumbai on the other hand... Won lots of praises...It melted hearts...The theme as I said before is the same. The difference...Creation of another Bad Guy from a Bad guy himself... Here, again the difference is a good heart with an evil mind and a selfish heart with an equally evil mind. The reason for its success is people knew the background and related to the two characters, Or should I say...one of them still Alive. Wanted to see their real lives on the reel...
Such characters have always raised curiosity within the masses...Especially, the saga from Rags to Riches. Be it Deewar, Don, Kane, and Able-Book by Jeffrey Archer and The Count of Monte Cristo-Book by Alexander Dumas. The Power, the revenge, the softness, the bloodshed but yet mysterious eyes that speak. The unique styles everything so Enigmatic...
This movie brings two different Characters with the same baseline but so different in their own ways. The Story that turns their lives like a whirlwind... The Life of---live Life –King Size. The life of the underworld...their Dark lives and the kinds of unlimited stories that are attached with it to make them what they are.

Both these movies so different in their own ways but with a similar message, viewed by the same Audience, yet 2 different views, different perceptions, expectations and different reactions.
This makes me think, what does it take to make a successful Box Office Hit—The script, the direction, the treatment of the film, the cast, The location, the Banner or is it just how the Audience feel about it, or is it just that, instant connection that is made between the real and the reel life... Think about it....Here it is again left for the readers to review and share their views.....
