It took in a lot of effort to write this article. Not because it was difficult to write but did not know from where to start. There were so many unanswered questions that were going on in my mind.
Dignity, self-respect, confidence, hope and a zeal to live life against all odds is what adds value to mankind and makes life worth living.
At some point of time, all these value-adds are at stake. It makes things more difficult when it is hurt and dealt at random with no fault of the person, but is hurt due to certain horrendous acts. One of such is hurt and insulted in the recent days that made headlines which shook the entire nation. This, in turn, started getting diluted politicized on a large scale and on a personal note—became the fight of the sexes
Why do we always wait for such a terrible thing to happen which becomes an awakening call? Makes one realize that the society that we live in is so 2 sided that it can take it and live with it if it goes unnoticed and suffered but cannot deal with when protested. We then question ourselves- are we really living in a so called secured society?
Why are such inhuman crimes being breed-ed and taking place across the country so often? Such criminal offense is committed across the different age groups, across various levels of the society. Where are things going drastically wrong? Is it just the momentary action of an unstable mind, OR is it because one can just get away with it OR is someone else’s life less important than oneself? Is it lack of implementing strict law and order, lack of procedures, delayed justice/justice denied, terms of punishment OR are we just OK with it?
In the midst of all these questions are we still missing some real basic ones that need attention? Is it something to do with the way women are projected and viewed at in terms of attitude, personality, and outlook, their sexuality… Is it because it is felt that they are less important and can just be dealt with as one wishes.OR is the other way round? Have we been living and knowingly or unknowingly created heroic men than just MEN or devilish humans? OR do we still feel in this so called developing country that women are by and large responsible in driving such crimes?
Another question that just bothers is Why a man is not held responsible? Where is the loophole?
Have we failed in raising our boys as a mother, sister, friend and as a Teacher in some manner or the other? We have surely given the right qualification for survival but failed in providing the right values, in educating the men folk, in nurturing their mindset towards the female gender. Why don’t we stop them the first time when they have the basic wrong attitude? Whom and what do we hold responsible for? Moreover..What kind of a society have we created?
I believe, Education starts from home, then climbs the ladder of school and further on in building the right society irrespective of being literate or not, be in a rural setup or urban or metros across the country. Unless and until the basic attitude changes such things will not stop. The realization should come from within. It is also a fact that the human mind cannot be nurtured and guarded always, nor it is programmed to change overnight, but we should strive in creating healthy and conscious minds. We have to work hard on it as an individual, in groups, as an organization, and as a society.
It’s a long journey and a very tough one. Only then there can be a change. A change that will make all of us hold our heads high with dignity and not hung in shame…
