I kept thinking about this subject for a very long time. This thought kept lingering, only to be buried away. Somehow I always wanted to bring this thought process in black and white someday.
There are certain words, sentences, reactions that are a major put-off for me.Somehow, I can’t comprehend to words like, physically challenged, disabled, handicapped.I feel these words belong to the slang category. Only because one has a visible or an invisible problem, it does not give the other person the authority to treat them any different. Everyone has their own way of doing things. Some who have to face mental/physical difficulties in life do things a bit differently, but that does not mean they are less competent or have to be shunned away.
It is easy to live a life when one does not have mental/physical difficulties to deal with, On the contrary, it takes great effort to live life with challenges and especially in situations when you know that one has to accept them and not only deal with it but live with it for the rest of their lives.
There are all kinds of people in this world. People with minor/major issues. At one point we say, we all are the creations of the almighty and everyone is destined to live in a particular fashion. On the other hand, we go ahead and categorize his creations as “Special Children of God” and deprive a dignified and a complete living.
Coming to think of it, why don’t we categorize our gods in the same manner? None of our gods are “normal” either.Think about it.One with multiple heads, gods and goddess with multiple hands, with a combination of a human form and an animal head and their subsequent avatars. We don’t pity them or call them less fortunate or sympathize them.Do we? We call them supernatural, pray, look up to them. We don’t differentiate them at all. Moreover, we always have a supporting story for each one of them. I am not being not- religious or thinking less about the almighty.
All I am trying to make a point here is…why differentiate his creation one from the another? Why haven’t we developed a sense of sensitivity? Why do we have this attitude of normal, abnormal?Isn’t one being abnormal by behaving in such a manner? We fail to see beyond the physical aspect. We have not yet learned to recognize people in terms of their ability and achievements. We are all stuck. We are stuck in our minds, in our thoughts and our deeds. This stuck syndrome is not confined to one class of the society, it applies to all.
We feel a sense of satisfaction, an edge over others when we treat a person differently. Unfortunately, fail to see the impact and the damage that is caused to the other person. We keep categorizing, labeling and create multiple cells. We just pretend to help, but most of us sympathize or pity. We don’t go and ask the person their need, instead impose the need on them.
None in this world require any sympathy or pity. One wants to be recognized for what he/she is. For their ability to live life and being allowed living with no discrimination. Maybe this could be one of the hidden messages that our GODS want to convey to mankind. No wonder they have created themselves the way they are.TRUELY SPECIAL in their special forms and figures.
