FLAG---On SALE?

I was on my way to work and we were going to have the Independence celebrations at the office. The Traffic and the weather were playing spoilsport. What a combination to start the Day!!! Around the corner, my attention was drawn by a Vendor, waving Our Beautiful FLAG and on his way to sell it.

I smiled at myself and thought, here adds another year to Our Independence Day. Celebrations are in the air. ..Patriotism to its fullest. It’s intoxicating. Flags are sold at every nook and corner.

We are celebrating Independence Day-The Day we freed ourselves from a foreign invasion. There are inspirational speeches were given, homage paid to our freedom fighters and martyrs. We hoist the flag, salute it, sing our national anthem and go off. Do we really mean it in its true sense? Do we really respect our flag? The representation of our huge nation?

Just stop for a while and give it a thought…Just look at it…We are a rich country. We have always been that way.We were invaded by many emperors, rulers, a dynasty for our richness. Finally, we were taken over and destroyed.

We have the best brains, prestigious institutes, Manpower, rich heritage, and culture. People come from near and far to learn and get enriched. In spite of all this, we are known as a developing country. Who do we pass the blame game on? Well, aren't all of us are in one manner or the other, directly or indirectly responsible.

When I think about all those soldiers and freedom fighters who fought their lives, to free this nation, the soldiers who guard this country day and night, it hurts to see that at one end they risk their lives for the country and on the other; there are a bunch of them who risk the country itself.

The country is being eaten away by termites and all that will be left behind, is dust. Thanks to our so called leaders whom we elect and give them all the authority to run this country. In other words, we give them the right to ruin it. All we do is sit and watch it. It just becomes a topic of discussion in our cozy drawing room or a chat show session or another blame game for the forthcoming elections.

We just sit and compromise on the state of affairs. We as a mass have never questioned the basis a person stands to be elected. There is no record check done, there is no benchmark designed for a person who submits his/ her candidature. It becomes just another public voting.

So called leaders are elected, and left on their own to run the states in the manner they wish to. There is no supervision or action taken for their misdeeds. The entire scenario in the course of time becomes so large, that it engulfs every bit and piece of it.
When someone finally stands up to question and wants to put an end to all the malpractices done, there is again another political outburst.

How long will all this continue?Don’t we see where this country is heading? Why are the people in power only interested in just filling their pockets and misuse it? Or they come to power just to do that? Why are we so tolerant? Why does every higher authority run this country as if it is his/her own property? Actually speaking, we have landed this country in a bigger trouble handing it over to those who are biting it off from within.
Why do we allow these people to touch the flag who are just interested in selling it in one manner or the other? Our Flag is our Pride. Our Nation is our Honour. The sacrifices done were not to bring this country to what it is today. These thoughts kept ringing in my mind. They just wouldn't stop.

Just then, a honk of a vehicle interrupted my thoughts. The Traffic finally made its way for easy movement. I could not take my eyes off the flag. I kept looking at it. Then, for a moment, it made me think…for now, Isn’t Our FLAG on SALE…?

A Writeup-From one woman to another

Yet another year and we hit 8th MARCH-INTERNATIONAL WOMAN’S DAY.   This day is observed to celebrate the women achievers in various fields across the globe devoid of economic, cultural background, religion, race, or nationality. Initially, it kicked off in 1909 in US from a labour movement in North America wherein the women workers protested against the working conditions. From then on, it emerged from being from just fighting for working conditions to considering and working for women rights across the globe for various reasons. This day is also known as United Nations day for women rights and International peace. Women and peace on the same day? I have this kind of reaction as I’ve usually heard that women are non peace makers. Wars are fought because of a Woman. Families are fallen apart because of the Woman. The Epic Ramayana and the Mahabharata happened because of a Woman. Let’s have a look at these events known in Hindu Mythology. Had Sita-in Ramayana not bee...

I am You AND You are Me!

Have you ever thought about comparison? Something that is so easy to do but is highly complex in its form? As a Child and a growing adult, I detested being compared with anyone. I did not understand the reason.  I kept thinking, how can one be compared with another? It is often executed as if it does not matter and is done as a matter of fact! I never understood why it is even done... One thing I knew was how it made me feel. What implications it can have. Comparison is a mighty Tool. It often breaks one but at times builds the Craziest ones. The ones it builds end up repeating the "Compare cycle game" Comparison is not saying, you are not doing or studying or performing like the other person but it is also trying and striving to be like a "PARTICULAR PERSON"  Why do you want to be someone else? Be a Photocopy? Why not be YOU? I was often asked, "Who is your Idol? Whom do You follow?" My all-time answer would be "NONE". I say that because there i...

The inner conflict

TO BE OR NOT TO BE- is phrased by Shakespeare in one of his plays-Hamlet. The everyday line for day to day life series is TO DO OR NOT TO DO.   The duality of the mind, the flip-flops of thoughts, the space between the doing and the undoing seems to have captured the souls of every individual. We are usually caught up in-between actions, words, gestures either with oneself or another. Human beings are social animals but are still animals in our own ways.   We love to please all and want to be in good books of all expect one IMPORTANT PERSON- Own self. This is the first step of conflict. A conflict with oneself. The conflict of the outward self with the inward self.   It is a pull and push mechanism. The inner self wants to push the outward self in loving oneself and the outward self is pulling away from listening to it. We resent ourselves from listening to our inner self. We fail to act its way. The reason could be, because we know it does not manipulate or ...
